Translation

A translation of Lareine’s “Shiroi Ito” from their album “Fierte no Umi to Tomo ni Kieyu ~The Last of Romance~”. The title and lyrics refer to the Japanese cultural belief that soulmates are tied by a red thread.

Please do not steal this translation or use it without my permission. All rights belong to Lareine and their label Applause Records.

Mado garasu ni kaita initial keshite mata kumorase
Nagareru keshiki wo minagara hitori de anata wo omottemiru
I erase the initials written on the window pane and it clouds again.
While watching the scenery pass alone, I try to think of you.

Even though we were bound by an incessant downpouring of love, you were unsatisfied
with just filling the gaps.
All I wanted was to always be by your side and feel your love.

Anata daiteite Kuruoshii hodo ni kono mi ga hateru made
Yurusarenai ai to wakatteru Semete ima dake ha... yume no naka de
I'll embrace you so tightly I go mad until this body is no more.
I know it's an unforgivable love, but at least now... it's in my dreams.

Futari deatteshimatta tsumi wo "Koukai shiteru?" to tsubuyaite
Mada hikikaeseru omotteta ano toki ni hanareteikereba
I murmur, "Do you regret it", the sin that we met?
I thought that we'd retrace our steps, but at that time, we parted.

Dakiau hodo... naze? Ima ijou wo motomete shimau
Yubiwa no ato ni fureru yubisaki made tsutau kono kanashimi keshite semete
ima dake ha...
Why... are we holding each other? After this, we'll be searching.
I touch you, from the traces of your rings to your fingertips. At least now,
this grief is being erased...

Akaku somaru koto no dekinai shiroi ito de musubareta koyubi dake de tsunagu ai
Ai suru hodo fukaku ochiteyuku namida ga
Shizuka ni shizundeyuku ai dake do...
With this white thread that cannot be dyed to red, I bind your single pinky
finger with love.
I love you so much that my tears are falling deeply, but
It's a love that is sinking into silence.

Akikaze ni sasowarete Tadoritsuku gogo no cafe
Yomikake no renai romance1 ni Me wo tojite tameiki
Tempted by the autumn wind, I arrive at an afternoon cafe.
Reading the romance novel, I close my eyes and sigh.

Kareha no carpet Hitori de aruku yo
Poplar no namikimichi Ano hi no omokage
I walk alone on the carpet of dried leaves
In the vestige of that day on the poplar-lined street.

"Adieu"
Adieu Maichiru ochiba no oto ha Kotoshi mo mata ai wo utau
alors Kaze to kanadeteru shirabe Kimi ni ha kikoenai yo
Adieu The sound of the leaves that fall, dancing and scattering sing again
of love this year.
alors the tune played by the wind won't be heard by you.

Akikaze ni sasowarete Mayoikomu Paris no cafe
Narihibiku no oto Boku no moto todokete
Tempted by the wind, I wander along the Paris cafes,
The echoing reaching deep into me.

Mou kitto fuyu da yo ne Kimi no sumu Paris2 ha
Hitori de tabidatta Kimi dake Champs Elysees
Surely it's already winter there. In Paris where you live,
You travelled alone, the only one on the Champs Elysees.

"Adieu"
Adieu The colour of the leaves that fall, dancing and scattering, are again
dyed in love this year.
alors every season in the cities I walk passes me by.

Kimi kara todoku air mail Sayonara no kotoba
Sannenhan no ai Ochiba ni kawatta
The air mail I received from you tells me goodbye.
Our three and a half year love has changed to a fallen leaf.

Adieu

"PARIS" Futari de yumemita machi de Hitori ikiru aishita hito
Ima Futari de kurashita machi de Shiawase negatteru yo
"PARIS" The person I love is living alone in that city where we dreamed together.
Now, I pray for happiness in the city where we lived.

~trace~

Subete no inochi1 ga karehateta daichi
Akaku somaru sora
Kawaita kuuki ha shinkirou to nari
Boku wo sasou
This earth, where all life has withered to death...
The sky dyed red...
The dry air turns to a mirage
And tempts me.

Jibun no ibasho ga wakaranaku natte
Kioku wo tadotta
Furikaereba mata suna no kizuato ga
Naiteiru yo
I don't know where I belong.
I follow my memories,
But when I look back, the scars in the sand
Are crying again.

O, my beloved sleeping eternally in the sand castle,
What kiss will waken you?
The illusion that won't reach me
Is that of my lover sleeping in the sand castle.

Genjitsu to omoereba donna ni raku darou
Anata ga toonoku yokan ga kiezu ni iru kedo
Tsuyoku nigirishimete agetai
Zutto sono te wo...
I wonder if it would be easier if it seemed like this was the reality?
You become distant, a premonition that won't disappear, but
I want to hold your hand tightly,
Forever...

Kuzureyuku suna no shiro Osanai koro  no omoi
Dou sureba todoku no darou
Owari ga egakidasu kotae ha
Ano shoujo ga ikiru... genjitsu
My childish feelings in the crumbling sand castle...
How will they reach you?
The answer painted out at the end
Is the reality... that that girl is alive.

O, my beloved sleeping eternally in the sand castle,
What kiss will waken you?
The illusion that won't reach me
Is that of my lover sleeping in the sand castle.
